Brandon Som has enjoyed quite a bit of late arriving recognition thanks to his Pulitzer Prize winning poetry collection Tripas as a groundbreaking exploration of language and race; however, the bitter truth is that the most striking aspect of the book is its utter fetishization of heritage and a total lack of self awareness that will cause cringe to any Spanish-speaking reader.
